The aria, People Say to Me, from Great Moments in Human History was performed on Sunday March 27, 2022 at 6:30 PM at a Friends of Emanuel Concert at the Emanuel Lutheran Church located at150 N. Palm St., La Habra, CA.

This aria was sung by Jose Luis Maldonado, the distinguished baritone who sung the aria at the premiere performances of the opera.

Great Moments in Human History was performed on
March 10 and March 11, 2022.

These performances took place at the National Opera Center, part of Opera America, at their facilities located at 330 Seventh Ave (by 29th Street) in Manhattan.

This work was recently composed and had never been performed previously. A full video of this performance om March 11, 2022 can be viewed on the Listen/Watch page of this website.

Although this piece is composed for a chamber orchestra as well as the singers, on these dates the instrumentalists in these two performances were two pianists. This, I have learned, is a common practice for new operas. Future performances with chamber orchestra are planned.

The cast, and I am still thrilled and amazed at the high artistic level of the singers, was:

Melanie Spector       soprano
Ana Mora                   mezzo
Rachel Hippert          mezzo
Juan Hernandez       tenor
Jose Maldonado      baritone

    The conductor was  Zachary Goodman.

The piano-vocal coach for this production was Diego Tornelli.

The two pianists for the performances were Diego Tornelli and Dura Jun.

The stage director was Rebecca Miller Kratzer.

These performances were co-produced by my novice production entity, Great Moments Productions, and The Opera Next Door (TOND), managed by Sasha Gutierrez, who has done outstanding organizational and production work for these performances. Sasha Gutierrez was very recently recognized by Musical America, the leading classical music publication, as one of the "Top 30 Professionals of the Year" in the field.
